There was a horrific spate of deaths on open water last month and the UK continues to see 50 children killed on our roads every year.
To combat this – it’s great to see the new Sept 2026 curriculum requiring schools to teach new personal safety lessons.

About the “Safety – out and about” lesson
- It’s been created for the new RSHE curriculum and the DfE has confirmed schools can teach the new RSHE curriculum this term
- It’s designed for Key Stage 1 but it can easily be used or adapted for any primary school age children
- FPA recommends splitting the lesson into three 30 minute segments – one per safety area covered – roads (and level crossings), water and fire.

Lesson outcomes:
- Identify risks in the wider world.
- Know the Green Cross Code and the Water Safety Code.
- Understand the dangers of fire.
- Identify ways to keep safe from physical risk.
