This guide does cover the 14 May 2026 update that the Contraceptive implant is now licensed for up to 5 years in the UK.

Update 14 May 2026: Contraceptive implant now licensed for up to 5 years in the UK
The licensed duration of the contraceptive implant (Nexplanon®) has changed from 3 years to 5 years in the UK. This has been welcomed by the College of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (CoSRH) – read more here.
The August 2025 guide mentions 3 years.
If you continue to use the August 2025 guide being mindful of the new timing so you can counsel patients accordingly.
