Lesson 2: Exploring the options

Key messages on Long-Acting Reversible Contraception

  • Implants, IUDs and injections are all types of Long-Acting Reversible Contraception
  • LARCs can be helpful as people don’t need to remember to take them every day
  • Reminders should be set in a phone / diary to remind the person to go back to the sexual health clinic or GP surgery in time for their contraception to be renewed
  • It’s also helpful to note down the last time the LARCs was last administered
  • All of these forms of contraception are hormonal, except for the copper IUD which does not contain hormones

Are there any other important points you think young people should know?
