In March 2019[I], it was announced that Relationships Education would become statutory in Primary Schools from September 2020.

Here at FPA, we’ve been supporting relationship and sex education for over 20 years, we have a number of booklets and resources, alongside our primary school teaching aide: Growing up with Yasmine and Tom which has achieved the important PSHE quality mark.

Yasmine and Tom PSHE teaching aide

We developed the first edition of Growing up with Yasmine and Tom in 2012, updating it based on feedback from teachers and launched version 2 at the end of 2019. Our aim was to make the relationships and education part of PSHE, a complex subject, much easier to teach. With few online resources available for Primary Schools, Growing up with Yasmine and Tom offers the much-needed support that teachers require in this subject area, as often they too are navigating unchartered territory when it comes to Relationships Education in primary schools.

PSHE Accredited educational programme

PSHE Assocation Quality Assured Resource LogoWe have recently been awarded the PSHE Association Accreditation Quality Mark and we’re proud to have developed a resource that is on the leading edge of effective teaching practice in PSHE education. The quality mark demonstrates that teachers will be supported in delivering the highest quality educational programme to their pupils[ii]

To achieve the accreditation has been a great achievement and makes sure that version 2 is completely in line with the PSHE Association principles.

Natika H Halil, Executive Director, FPA the sexual health company said:

“To have a resource that has already gained so much positive feedback and to achieve this Quality mark gives us even more confidence that version 2 will be exactly what teachers need right now.”

Growing up with Yasmine and Tom follows the guidance which includes the building blocks to friendships, family relationships, and relationships with peers and adults. It teaches kindness and taking turns, treating each other with kindness, consideration and respect, permission seeking and giving, and the concept of personal privacy[iii].

Written by teachers, for teachers Growing up with Yasmine and Tom is fully compliant with the guidance provided by Department for Education. It includes 31 lesson plans with activities ready for teachers to use once they have access to the tool. The lesson plans are self-explanatory and easy to follow.

But, don’t take our word for it, here’s what others have to say about our RSE resource.

“We loved the way that it was so user friendly and visual. The fact that Yasmine and Tom are the same age as the age group they are addressing made it even more relevant to the children, especially as they were from a more ‘modern’ family with the makeup of families that many of our children would identify with”

“This has transformed and updated our RSE programme – thank you for introducing us to a brilliant resource"
