FPA welcomes the government's decision to legalise the home use of the second early medical abortion pill in England by the end of 2018.
Misoprostol must currently be taken in a hospital or clinic under medical supervision, leaving women at risk of starting to miscarry on their journey home.
The move brings England in line with Wales and Scotland.
Emily James, Policy and Public Affairs Manager for FPA said:
“We welcome the government’s decision to approve the use of misoprostol, the second of two early medical abortion pills, for home use in England. This simple measure will protect women from unnecessary distress and discomfort and is a huge step forward.”
