Teaching Relationships Checklist

Welcome to Growing up with Yasmine and Tom, we’ve put together this helpful checklist that enables you to maximise the learning experience for your pupils, whilst saving valuable time. This checklist includes useful tips and links to products that help you to navigate difficult subjects and encourage healthy conversations.

You will need access to the internet, it is always best to check connectivity prior. Some lessons require printing additional materials, we’ve indicated these below for you to help save time.

Module 1 KS1

1	Introducing Yasmine and Tom	Includes a short clip introducing Yasmine and Tom on iPads or laptop for pupils (project to whiteboard if preferred). Print worksheets prior to lesson. Have marker pens handy.	Coming Soon: Yasmine and Tom dolls.
2	Friendships and feelings	Includes 1 digital interaction (computer/screen projection). Includes 2 worksheets, to be given to pupils. Print on A3 for teacher presentation (if possible) and A4 for pupils (1 per pupil).
3	Different families	Includes 1 worksheet, ideally printed on A4 for pupils (1 per pupil) Requires plasticine/playdough/modelling clay. Have additional paper and pens available.	Coming Soon: Yasmine and Tom dolls.
4	My brilliant body	Includes 1 worksheet, ideally printed on A3 for pupils (1 per pupil or share 1 between pairs). Requires red paper and scissors to cut out heart shape, 1 per pupil.	Recommended: Let’s Grow with Nisha and Joe. A comic style magazine for KS1, it aids with naming body parts.
5	Keeping clean and taking care of myself	Includes 1 digital interaction (computer/screen projection). Schools to provide items to demonstrate how to keep clean such as toothbrush, hairbrush, nit comb, facecloth, sponge, plasters, sun cream and sun hat.
6	Naming body parts	Includes 1 digital interaction (computer/screen projection). Provide a large roll of paper.	Recommended: Let’s Grow with Nisha and Joe. A comic style magazine for KS1, it aids with naming body parts.
7	Keeping safe	Includes 3 digital interactions (computer/screen projection). Print teacher helpsheet on staying safe.

Module 2 LKS2

Teaching Aid: Gender Equality in Primary Schools. by Helen Griffin. A hands-on guide supports primary teachers and other school staff in challenging gender stereotypes and sets out advice on how to implement gender equality and respect in the curriculum, and in all areas of school life.
3	Me, myself and I	Includes 1 digital interaction (computer/screen projection). Includes 1 worksheet, ideally printed on A4 for pupils. Print poem by Grace Nichols: “Give myself a hug”
4	What makes a good friend?	Includes 1 digital interaction (computer/screen projection). Includes 1 worksheet, ideally printed on A4 for each pupil (1 per pupil). Tip: Picture books on friendship for browsing.	Coming Soon: Yasmine and Tom dolls.
5	Families and getting on with our families	Includes 1 digital interaction (computer/screen projection). Requires blank card (1 per pupil).
6	My personal and private body parts and keeping safe	Includes 2 digital interactions (computer/screen projection). Requires card paper to printed worksheets that are included. Print 2 worksheets on keeping safe touch and scenarios.	Teaching Aid: Sex and relationships for 7-9 years. By Molly Potter. A no-nonsense guide for sex education in primary school for those aged 7-9.
7	Body care	Includes 1 digital interaction (computer/screen projection). 1 x teacher helpsheet on keeping clean. Requires pens and paper. Includes 1 x worksheet, ideally printed on A3 for each pupil (1 per pupil).
8	Is it risky?	Includes 2 digital interactions (computer/screen projection). 1 x worksheet: printed and onto cards for group-work. Tip: plan class group size and print number of worksheets accordingly.
9	People who can help us on and offline	Includes 1 digital interaction (computer/screen projection). 1 x teacher helpsheet on CEOP reporting.

Module 3 UKS2

5	Keeping safe – safe and unsafe touch	Includes 2 digital interactions (computer/screen projection). Requires worksheets printed on cards to give out. Decide group size and print number of worksheets according to group numbers. Requires pens and paper.
6	Keeping safe – online images	Includes 1 digital interaction (computer/screen projection). Includes 1 worksheet, ideally printed on A4 for each pupil (1 per pupil). Tip: familiarise self with social media platforms children may use at this age.

Lesson 8	Periods (menstruation)	Includes 1 digital interaction (computer/screen projection). Prepare/pre-empt questions on what a period is to read to class. Tip: Periods pack containing period products provides resource to teach lesson effectively.	Classroom Aid: The Period Pack. Adds a vital tangible aid for pupils. Promotes conversation. Recommended: Periods Leaflet. For girls aged 9 and above prepares them for menstruation by xplaining why people have periods, what happens, and how to deal with them. Recommended: 4You, Growing up – what’s it all about? A colourful booklet, for young people aged 9 and above, includes straightforward information on puberty and growing up.
9	Wet dreams and masturbation	Print teacher helpsheet – an essential read prior to lesson. Prepare/pre-empt questions on what masturbation is and wet dreams are (examples given in teacher help sheet). Make a box made available for pupils to submit their questions ahead of the lesson if they have any.	Recommended: Wet Dreams. Covers a natural part of a young boy’s development through puberty. Aids difficult conversations. Recommended: 4You, Growing up – what’s it all about? A colourful booklet, for young people aged 9 and above, includes straightforward information on puberty and growing up.
10	Making babies – sexual intercourse	Includes 1 digital interaction (computer/screen projection). Includes 1 worksheet, ideally printed on A4 for each pupil (1 per pupil).	Teaching Aid: Bodyworks. This is a resource for teachers so they can increase their knowledge, works as a teacher’s helpsheet. Classroom Aid: Where willy went. By Nicholas Allan. The big story of a little sperm. Classroom Aid: Sex and relationships education for 9-11 years. By Molly Potter. A no-nonsense guide for sex education in primary school for those aged 9-11
11	Making babies – assisted fertility and multiple births	Includes 2 digital interactions (computer/screen projection). Print teacher helpsheet: assisted fertility. Tip: list all different methods of assisted fertility to help explain.
12	Making babies – pregnancy and birth	Includes 1 digital interaction (computer/screen projection). Includes 2 worksheets, ideally printed on A4 for pupils (1 per group) Requires pens and paper. Print teacher helpsheet: outlining the stages of birth. Tip: Remember this is a natural part of development and life.	Classroom Aid: Let’s talk about where babies come from? by Robie H Haris. An updated edition of the classic guide for young children on babies, bodies, love, sex, reproduction and families.
13	Identity and prejudice	Print teacher helpsheet: Key terms on sexual identity. Includes 2 worksheets, ideally printed on A4 for each pupil (1 per pupil).
14	Equality and the law	Includes 1 digital interaction (computer/screen projection).	Recommended: Law on sex factsheet. Information on the law providing key details on specifics legal acts.
15	Getting help	Includes 1 digital interaction (computer/screen projection). Includes 1 worksheet, ideally printed on A4 for each pupil (1 per pupil). Requires additional pens and paper.
