Non-consensual sexual activity, young people and teenage pregnancy

Two recent studies, A Missing Link, An Exploratory Study of the Connections Between Non-consensual Sex and Teenage Pregnancy (London Metropolitan University, 2010) and Where is Your Line? (The Havens – Sexual Assault Referral Centres, 2010), show concerning statistics about young people’s understanding of consent to sexual activity and their interpretation of their partners’ actions.

Where is Your Line? found that almost a quarter (22 per cent) of those aged 18–25 would expect another person to have sex with them after oral sex. The London Metropolitan University study also discusses the links to teenage pregnancy.

This new one-day course uses these studies and the experiences of young people to help formulate strategies.

The course is for anyone working with young people in sexual health to help equip them to support young people around decision making and consent.
