New! Domestic violence, relationship abuse and young people

The research Standing on My Own Two Feet (2011) from the University of Bristol and the NSPCC looked at intimate partner violence in the relationships of 82 disadvantaged young people.

Over half of the girls and just over a quarter of the boys in the research reported that they had been a victim of violence in at least one of their relationships; two-thirds of the girls and one third of the boys reported experiencing emotional violence, most often controlling behaviour; and, half of the girls reported that they had experienced some form of sexual violence in their relationships.

FPA has developed a course which aims to provide professionals working with young people with the skills to recognise different forms of abuse and develop strategies to support young people to make decisions which help keep them safe.
