What is it like being a young woman today? Increased choice and opportunity for young women means increased pressure and responsibility. How easy is it for young women to explore their sexuality and make informed sexual health choices?
Unplanned pregnancy, abortion, contraception, sexually transmitted infections, earlier onset of puberty, self-esteem, body image, media pressure, drugs and alcohol, myths and misinformation are just some of the issues facing young women today. Yet young women often say the sex and relationships education they receive is too little, too late and too biological.
Based on the FPA publication Beyond Barbie: Community Based Sex and Relationships with Girls and Young Women: A Workers' Compendium, this two-day course is for anyone interested in promoting young women’s sexual and emotional health needs – teachers, youth workers, social services staff, health workers and outreach workers in both the voluntary and statutory sectors.
