Promoting choice: communicating about sexual health and contraceptive choices with teenage parents (for midwives and health visitors)

It is estimated that 20 per cent of births to under-18-year-olds are second or subsequent births, many of which are unplanned pregnancies.

Research shows this can limit life chances and negatively impact on the health of both mother and baby. We also know that some young parents may have missed out on sex and relationships education at school, are poorly informed about the range of contraceptive options and find it difficult to access services.

FPA offers two courses, one aimed at midwives and health visitors, and one course aimed at non-health professionals to enable you to communicate with teenage parents about their choices and options.
