Sex and relationships work with people with learning disabilities

This one-day course is for experienced staff who would like a refresher in their sex and relationships work (SRW) with people with learning disabilities.

The course covers up-to-date legislation in this area, addresses attitudes and values, and looks at practical exercises, session planning and resources for staff working with people with learning disabilities.

Prerequisite

Participants on this course are expected to have a level of experience in this area of work and be carrying out SRW with groups or individuals with learning disabilities.

Aim

To enhance and confirm the existing skills of experienced practitioners working with people with learning disabilities in the area of sexual health.

Learning outcomes

  • Update knowledge of legal issues and government guidance regarding people with learning disabilities.
  • Address values and attitudes and the impact these have on work.
  • Examine a range of current resources and experience examples of exercises.
  • Look at programme planning and development.
