“Nice to have reference to real situations and cases.”

The laws around sex can be complex and confusing, and may be used to ‘hide behind’ as a reason not to approach sex and relationships work (SRW) with people with learning disabilities. Policy statements from individual organisations often add to this confusion and leave staff very unsure of what they can and cannot do. In particular, when working with people with learning disabilities consent can be a confusing factor.
This one-day course is for anyone wanting to clarify what the law currently says about sexual activity and people with learning disabilities. It also gives participants the opportunity to look at some policies, either their own or from other workplaces, and to consider how these can be of use in the workplace.
Suitable for care workers, social workers, psychologists, teachers, school nurses and community nurses who work with vulnerable adults and young people.
