Reacting to the news of Savita Halappanavar in Galway, Southern Ireland who tragically died after being refused an abortion, Dr Audrey Simpson OBE Acting Chief Executive, FPA said:
“A shocking case and a terrible indictment of what happens when legal abortion isn’t available. Both Northern and Southern Ireland are failing in their duty of care to women. People who are anti-choice often use the rhetoric that abortion has never saved a woman’s life, to justify their opinion. This dreadful situation demonstrates how completely and utterly wrong that is.”
