FPA reacts to parliament voting to keep the 24 week time limit for abortion

20 May 2008

Reacting to the parliamentary vote to maintain the time limit for abortion at 24 weeks, Julie Bentley, Chief Executive, fpa said:

fpa is delighted that parliament has resisted cynical attempts by anti-abortion campaigners to reduce access to safe, legal abortion. Cutting the time limit, even by a few weeks, would have directly contradicted medical and scientific evidence on fetal viability and would only have exacerbated the desperation of the small percentage of women needing later abortion. MPs have reached the right decision.”
