If your child has a learning disability

Your child will reach puberty and become an adult whatever their learning ability.

Girls will have periods and be able to get pregnant, boys will have erections and ejaculate. Both will have sexual feelings.

Children with a learning disability still need the information, but in a way they can understand. FPA has an excellent CD-ROM, All About Us, that you can use with them to learn together.

One of your chief anxieties is that your child is vulnerable to all kind of exploitation and abuse. But by teaching your child about sex and relationships you help keep them safe. They’ll know which parts of their body are private and learn what to do and say in certain situations.
