The theme for 2007 was Reproduction: a quick guide to your body. We know from calls to the FPA helpline that there are lots of myths and misinformation about how men’s and women’s bodies actually work – especially when trying to avoid pregnancy. Myths can affect how well people use contraception and what they do when it fails. We exposed some of these fairytales and set some records straight.
No-one can be expected to know everything about contraception and sexual health – that’s what FPA is for! But there are main danger areas anyone can wander in to (and do) on things like periods, sperm and fertility. When people get their facts wrong, it can make the difference between getting away with it . . . and getting pregnant.
Test your own knowledge about reproduction. Find out how long an egg lives, how fast sperm travels and the calorific value of semen!
Take the sex quiz.
We conducted a National Opinion Poll (NOP) survey to test people’s knowledge about sex and reproduction. The survey revealed widespread confusion about sex and reproduction.
