Training course participant
Staff working with people with learning disabilities often have some anxieties when they start to think about sex and relationships work (SRW). There are many complex issues which need to be considered before starting to address SRW, such as sex and relationships policies, legal aspects, capacity to consent, assessment of sexual knowledge, and the skills that staff currently have.
This three day course addresses the important issues in SRW and gives participants the opportunity to discuss complex areas of work and share useful skills and ideas with each other. Suitable for anyone working with people with mild–moderate learning disabilities who has little experience of SRW and wants an introduction to this area of work.
Aim
To increase participants' awareness of the rights of people with learning disabilities and provide the knowledge, confidence and skills to apply inclusive practice.
Learning outcomes
- Increase knowledge of rights, legislation and policy issues.
- Gain skills and awareness in addressing issues of sexuality.
- Address values and attitudes and the impact these have on work.
