Clare Laxton has joined fpa (Family Planning Association) as the sexual health charity’s Parliamentary Officer. She was previously a Policy and Campaigns Officer at Leonard Cheshire Disability.
In her new role, Clare will be developing fpa’s parliamentary and lobbying work in Westminster and across the devolved assemblies of Scotland and Wales. She’ll also be responsible for the administration of the All Party Parliamentary Pro-Choice and Sexual Health Group and organising fpa’s annual Summer Reception at the House of Lords.
Speaking on her appointment Clare said:
“Raising awareness about really important issues that aren’t often in the public arena, like sexual rights for people with learning disabilities, or promoting sexual health within the homeless community is what makes fpa unique, and why I wanted to join the organisation.
“Last year fpa campaigned relentlessly around the 1967 Abortion Act. My job in 2009 is to get messages across to MPs, MSPs and AMs about sex education, sexual wellbeing and fpa’s community projects to really engage them in our work. It’s a challenge I’m very much looking forward to.”
