Following the arrival of a new contraceptive method, fpa is delighted to launch its comprehensive information booklet entitled Your guide to the contraceptive vaginal ring. It is the first independent consumer booklet on the contraceptive vaginal ring and provides accurate and up to date information in an easy to read format. It covers essential topics for any woman interested in the method, including how the contraceptive vaginal ring works, its advantages and disadvantages, and general information about using hormonal methods of contraception.
The contraceptive vaginal ring is a flexible, transparent plastic ring that releases estrogen and progestogen much like the contraceptive patch and combined pill. It is easily put in place for three weeks and then is removed for a ‘ring free’ week. This makes it a suitable contraceptive for women who like using a dual hormonal method of contraception, but prefer longer lasting coverage.
Natika H Halil, Director of Information, fpa said:
“We were delighted to welcome a new method this year, giving women even more choice over the contraception that suits them and their lifestyle. This resource is an excellent addition to our existing range of information booklets.
“The new booklet will not only provide clear and simple information on the contraceptive vaginal ring for the public, but will also help health professionals during contraceptive consultations with their clients.”
The booklet is available to buy now from fpa’s online shop at www.fpa.org.uk or email sexual health direct at fpadirect@fpa.org.uk. 50 copies of the booklet cost £6.50.
The contraceptive vaginal ring booklet is part of fpa’s existing series of information booklets on all 15 methods of contraception, which can be downloaded on fpa’s website.
