The FPA Speakeasy project has been highly commended for the Children & Young People Now Awards 2009 in the Health and Wellbeing Award category.
The Speakeasy project works with parents and carers to give them the information and skills to talk to their children about sex and relationships. The awards celebrate the people and organisations who work to improve young lives across the UK.
David Kesterton, Speakeasy Project Manager at FPA, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be highly commended for this prestigious award. Speakeasy is now working in every country in the UK, is being incorporated into many local authorities in England, and is reaching more parents than ever before. We are very proud of the work we do in Speakeasy and its recognition as a fantastic community project.”
About Speakeasy
Speakeasy offers a non-threatening group-based opportunity for parents and carers to acquire the confidence and skills they need to talk to their children about sex and sexuality. It is designed to be fun and relaxed, providing an atmosphere where parents can learn together from their own experiences. It is locally organised and can link with educational, community and/or health provisions in a particular area.
